The story

Longaberger, a maker of handwoven maple baskets that grew into a direct-sales company with more than a billion dollars in annual sales, built its headquarters in 1997 as a giant copy of its best-selling medium market basket. Two large handles on the roof, attached with replica copper and wood rivets, are heated in the winter so ice does not build up on them, and the building has a central atrium, glass elevators and space for more than 500 employees. It became a Midwest landmark.

Then the company shrank. It moved out in 2016 and went out of business in 2018, and the building sold in 2018 for $1.2 million. A 2019 plan to turn it into a 150-room luxury hotel stalled when the pandemic arrived, and other ideas came and went. In 2026 the building was again for sale, at $8.5 million, and its broker said the owner would love to see it become a boutique hotel and that it should be an attraction.

Its neighbor, the world's largest apple basket, is a few miles away in Frazeysburg.
