The story of this land

Seneca Lake, also called Senecaville Lake, is the largest of the Muskingum Watershed lakes in the area, with 3,550 acres of water, 4,060 acres of land and a maximum depth of 31 feet. The MWCD runs Seneca Lake Park at 22172 Park Road in Senecaville, with camping, picnic sites, an activity center and a hiking trail system. A private marina has boat sales, rentals, fuel and docking, and the Dockside restaurant beside it.

The horsepower limit is 399, so it is a lake for speedboats as well as anglers. The Ohio Division of Wildlife leases fishing and hunting rights on the lake and its lands.

Fireworks From the Point

On the Saturday closest to the Fourth of July, Seneca Lake lights up. The fireworks go off from a point near the campgrounds, and boats crowd the coves to watch. In earlier years, the show was fired from the big island in the middle of the lake instead.

The tradition is a reminder that the lake was made for people: a dam across the Seneca Fork built for flood control that became a summer town.
